Street lighting is an integral part of the Villages infrastructure. Oak Lawn owns and maintains 4,870 street lights within the Village. There are aluminum, steel, and decorative poles. The Village also maintains the street lights located in the many municipal parking lots including the commuter lot and parking tower. The street light is cycling. This is an indication that the light is ready to fail and burn out. Notify Public Works @ 708-499=7756 of the problem.

There were no lights on in my neighborhood. What caused this and what should I do?
There are a number of reasons an entire circuit would not be functioning properly. A stuck contactor in the control box, a bad or inoperable photocell, a faulty clock, or even a cable break underground. You can notify Public Works @ 708-499-7756.

There are exposed wires on the street light pole. What should I do?
Notify Public Works immediately @708-499-7756 during regular business hours. If this is after hours or on the weekend, notify Oak Lawn Central Dispatch @ 708-499-7721.

The glass cover/lens is broken or missing. What should I do?
Notify the Department of Public Works @ 708-499-7756 of the problem.

The entire fixture is hanging off of the street light pole. What should I do?
Notify Public Works immediately @708-499-7756 during regular business hours. If this is after hours or on the weekend, notify Oak Lawn Central Dispatch @ 708-499-7721.

The street light pole looks old and rusty. Is there anything that can be done?
There are still steel light poles in some areas of Oak Lawn. We will inspect the light pole. If the pole is found to be structurally sound; we will sand it, prime it, and re-paint it. If necessary, we will install a replacement light pole. You can report this to Public Works @ 708-499-7756.

The street lights go on while it is still light or go off before the sun comes up. What causes this and what can be done to fix it?
Some of the many lighting circuits throughout the Village are controlled by time clocks. Periodically a time clock will malfunction due to power outages, power spikes, or old age. This can cause the lights to operate sporadically. You can notify Public Works of the problem @ 708-499-7756.

What does the Village do with the bulbs after they burn out?
The Village of Oak Lawn recycles all used light bulbs in an effort to promote eco-friendly standards for the entire community.

The light near my home is out but it is on a wooden utility pole. Why is this and what should I do to report this problem?
This is a Public Service Utility Light provided by Com-Ed. You can notify Public Works of the outage @ 708-499-7756. You can also report the outage directly to Com-Ed @ 1-800-EDISON-1 or on their website.

The lights were out in the park last night. What should I do?
These lights are maintained by the Oak Lawn Park District. You can notify Public Works @ 708-499-7756 about the outage or you can notify the Park District @ 708-857-2201.

I have noticed some of the lights have numbers and letters on them. What are they for?
These codes are used by the Illinois Department of Transportation to identify their light poles. If these lights are not functioning properly; you can notify Public Works @ 708-499-7756, or you can notify IDOT directly @ Illinois Department of Transportation.
