The myriad of signs located throughout the Village serve a vital function to the day to day operations. They are a major part of the infrastructure and serve many purposes. The striping located on the streets also plays a vital role in the movement and safety of vehicles and pedestrians alike.

How do I report a missing sign or a sign that has been knocked down?
Call the Department of Public Works @ 708-499-7756 to report any problems with street signs. If this is a STOP sign, please report the problem immediately. If this is after normal business hours, please call the Dispatch Center @ 708-499-7721.
I have noticed that some signs have a reflective strip down the front. What is this and what are they for?
These are called “Britesides”. They aid in visibility when new signs have been installed or in areas where there seems to be high traffic volumes and traffic issues.
Why are some signs brighter than others?
The Village is actively replacing our signs with the best and brightest materials available on the market today. Larger Street Name signs and brighter materials on all signs not only allow for more visibility but they are aesthetically more pleasing.
Who is responsible for the signs on the highways and secondary roads?
While some of the roads are State or County owned; the Village workforce handles 95% of the maintenance of every sign located on these highways. We also maintain 100% of the signs located on Village right-of-way or Village owned parking lots and/or parking structures.
